RE: [Apple iPod] iPod classic 320gb??

I've heard other rumors that suggest Apple wants to get away from hard-drive-based units, but who knows how valid those are. It's obvious that things are moving in the direction of flash for everything, and if Apple does come out with a 64GB Touch in September or October, that might be enough for 95%+ of their customer-base. Some people will still opt for a 160GB or 250GB version, but if they keep the same small screen and the non-touch interface (which they probably need to in order to keep the power consumption at the current rate), then the need for such larger amounts of storage becomes kind of pointless - video takes up the most storage but the experience is pretty lacking on such a small screen compared to the touch. Sure there are higher-bit-rate audio files for audiofiles, but that is really a niche market, as is the market for people have more than 500 albums worth of music in general). It will also be a lot simpler for Apple to just make flash-based devices. All their devices EXCEPT for the classics are flash-based now, so getting rid of the last vestiges of "mechanical" iPods should streamline and simplify their support systems I would think...

I've noticed that the iPod drive sizes seem to follow the trend of the palm
sized drives that are sold for travelling with laptops. Since I've been
watching them they've gone fro 40 GB to 60 then 120, followed by 160 and now
they are offering 250 GB drives. I'd look for a 250 GB iPod sometime in the
near future.

I know a lot of times new iPods are introduced around the Holiday
shopping season and wondering if anyone has news of any new models of
the iPod with more storage space coming soon? I have about 7gb left on
my iPod 60gb and before i buy another I want to find out if a larger one
is coming soon so I can buy it. If not I'll end up buying the 160gb. I'm
sure that will last me awhile. =)~
