[Apple iPod] Re: ITouch Information

you can type information in the calendar area. I typed a mini letter
in there the other night out of boredom.
It is not as convenient as a PDA for writing long letters etc...I too
looked into getting a PDA but decided to go with the iTouch because
of the capability of getting online and the nice look of the iTouch.
I don't regret getting mine at all, my husband picked it up for me for
Christmas. Plus watching movies on it...too cool!

Re: [Apple iPod] Timex Watch

I got one at about 40% off (would never have bought it at full price)
just before Christmas, just used it on a x-country plane trip and a
coastal road trip, worked great in the car and from my pocket on the
plane. Looking forward to using it at work for the discrete podcast
listen thru a single earbud. Not that anyone cares it's just a lot of
fumbling to hit pause once someone has walked in and started a
conversation with you. Distance is advertised at 10' but it seems to
do twice that in the conditions I've tried.

Only negative I have is the receiver takes up the bottom adapter which
means you cannot use a regular dock, PocketDock or probably some FM
transmitters. Would have been nice if they could have designed a more
flush adapter that passed through to another adapter port allowing for
access to the iPod's outputs and for charging. The little receiver
does draw some power off of the iPod and I'm not sure what the watch
battery life will be like since it's the transmitter, however with
just four screws it will be easy to change out that battery when the
time comes.

It only does volume up/down, play/pause and forward/reverse so if you
use playlists or like podcasts/audiobooks it works fine after you've
made your initial selection from the screen. I would say it would be a
must have for anyone who works out with an iPod and has the extra cash
for it.

The watch is fine too, highly adjustable airy band, good button
layout, nice big digits and all the usual Timex Ironman features and
functions to choose from.

Regards,
Cozimoto

[Apple iPod] ITouch Information

I saw the ITouch my son bought his gf for Christmas and I love it!
There are a few questions, though and I thought I'd bring them to this
forum. Looked through the archives and don't really see an answer.
Can this Ipod be used as a PDA? Can it be set up to synch with a
calendar and contact program, say Yahoo's? A combo PDA and MP3 player
would fit my needs much better than the IPhone. I love the touch
screen interface. I love that it is flash based rather than a hard
drive. I'll keep my old IPod as my main music library and just
download favorites to the ITouch. Give me information, please, before
I do something rash!

Re: [Apple iPod] question about itunes library...

You connect the iPod. The default is auto-sync, which means that
everything that is in a compatible format that fits will be copied.
You can also choose manual control or copy only selected playlists.

Any chance it would work better if you had all other programs closed so there was more RAM available for KN?

Re: [Apple iPod] Re: iPod music grayed out in iTunes

Thanks everyone for the help. This all started when my external HD crashed and I lost all my music (I know - back-up, back-up, back-up!). Since copying the music that was on my iPod back to my computer, somehow not everything was copied and I have now lost even more music.

I don't know why the problem happened in the first place but I had done the manually manage music think already and it didn't help. I then tried it again the next day and everything works now. I now have a restored iPod, a reloaded iTunes and have of my songs on my iPod.

Oh well, another lesson learned. Time to start discovering some new music and ripping all my CD's again!

Carl

1. Make sure you have iTunes installed.
2. Unhook your USB cable and plug it into another USB port.
3. Properly shut down your Windows pc and re-boot.
4. Reset your iPod ( Hold down your MENU and Center buton at the same
time until the Apple Logo appears)
Hope this helps.

Yes, I think the problem was that I needed to reboot to have the computer accept the new device. Thanks.

Please. Please, Please read the above link if your new to the group. Most likely you got an iPod for xmas & your question has been asked many times before. The group has set up a faq sheet which answers most queries. If however you find something that is totally baffling you or a quirk that you believe hasn't been documented here then please share it with us. I am fascinated with the many discussions on this group & have learned much, but; it gets tiresome reading the same requests time & again. I do appreciate for new users these are new questions & that is why some of the members of this group spent many hours putting the faq together, for that I am thankful.

Happy New Year to all

Re: [Apple iPod] Re: iPod music grayed out in iTunes

Have you checked "Manually manage music and video"? That option is
under the Summary tab and I believe is turned off by default.

Re: [Apple iPod] Re: iPod music grayed out in iTunes

somehow you're iPod is no longer set to "manually manage" music, but rather to automatically syncing your iTunes library. At least that's what it sounds like to me. With your iPod connected to iTunes, highlight your iPod under "Devices" in iTunes. You should see an option either in the Summary tab or Music tab that allows you to check "Manually manage music on this iPod" or some words to that effect. I don't have my iPod connected at the moment to give you the exact wording & location for that option - sorry!

[Apple iPod] Where has all the music gone?

Hi,

Have been a proud owner of an 80GB Classic for a few days and so
am still at the bottom of the learning curve. Had 'sync-ed' about
2GB of music CDs when I thought I'd try storing some data on it
from my HDD. That was the last I saw of the music and the data
doesn't show on the "Joe's iPod" drive of my PC either although
there is a mysterious 139MB 'other' shown on the capacity display
of iTunes.

What is it most likely that I did wrong? Have RTFM-ed but if the
answer is in there I haven't noticed it. I can't restore from the
library as I deleted songs as I went along. My laptop has only got
a 30GB drive and I need the space for other stuff. I reckoned that
the CDs were a good enough storage medium anyway.

Thanks - Joe

Re: [Apple iPod] Can one computer 'host' two iPods? (4gb Nano & 80gb classic)

I don't know what you mean by "open file" but each iTunes library can
support any number of iPods, each with its own prefs and playlists (or
the same if you like).

Remember that the default for an iPod is auto-sync, so you will want
to change the nano to manual or selected playlists.

There's no limit to the number of iPods you can use with any given

Re: [Apple iPod] Re: iPod music grayed out in iTunes

As you discovered first hand you are right you can only use one ipod for one itunes profile. Probably it has to do a lot that they have to be as tight with music copyright infringement in order to have proper deel with media producers. Probably there could be the (unofficial) way around to reuse same media you have in HD for your other ipod but ull need to google it on the net.

Hopefully in the future apple will find out some more user friendly solution for those like urself who need to use their media in several devices at the same time

Re: [applekeynote] Re: Keynote export options

Absolutely!

Try the export in QT and then if it does not work try exporting into PP (ugh), you might lose some things. but.

[Apple iPod] Can one computer 'host' two iPods? (4gb Nano & 80gb classic)

I have an 80gb Classic, hosted by a laptop, with
Itunes, everything is working well. Then I added a
new 4gb nano, which the itunes software upgraded to
the current software.

I've tried to add some Movies and MP3's, that I
have already added to the 80gb classic, but when I
try to "open file" when the nano is connected, they
never show up on the table for the media.

I'm wondering if the problem is that itunes won't let
me host more than one iPod on the same computer.

I haven't the fortitude to re-attach the original 80gb
classic back to the computer, fearing that I may lose
all the programming that's on it.

Please help.

Thanks.

Re: [Apple iPod] Re: iPod music grayed out in iTunes

I am no expert on this but maybe it has something to do with authorize/deauthorize computer.

OK - no help yet. I have removed iTunes from my hard drive and redownloaded and installed it again. Still the same problem. I restored my iPod back to original settings last night and resynced all my music. Still the same problem.

I still cannot manually manage my music or podcasts, everything is grayed out on my iPod when I hook it up to iTunes. I cannot right click on anything or move it, delete it or do anything to it. I can still play it on my iPod (not on iTunes with my iPod) so that is one good thing but it is getting frustrating that I cannot manually manage my music.

Anyone know what's going on?

[Apple iPod] New nanos and ripped movies

Sometime back I got a "new" 60gig Ipod and I put a bunch of ripped
movies on it. One day, itunes said I needed to update the firmware
to a higher level. I did and the movies stopped playing, completely.
I was told to go back to the earlier firmware (like version 1.000).
I did, the movies came back, and all is good. I am still on firmware
1.000 and the movies still work fine.

My wife bought me a new video nano for Xmas. I went to the Apple
store to buy a case and casually asked the store clerk if it would
play movies. He said he didn't think so because that is a "violation
of the law" and that if I was doing that I was a law breaker and
should arrested. Cute. Of course, if I BUY video content from him,
then I am a good guy. Another guy in line said that the new nano
will play anything with an .m4a file extension. Interestingly, he
said he took .mp4 files, changed the file extension to .m4a and they
worked.

Anyway, has anyone tried playing their ripped movie collection on
the new nano, or for that matter on a 60 gig iPod with a later
software version?

Thanks and Happy New year to all,

Tim

Re: [Apple iPod] Ipod on Windows 2000

Otto,
Yes, I loaded the iPod up with songs, charged it, then wrapped it.

I called Apple, and yes they said that the new iPods (third generation)
require XP. The second generation iPods can use Windows 2000.

So, I guess when I visit my nephew, I'll be bringing my laptop with
iTunes.
