[Apple iPod] New I pod owner

Hi all,
I just purchased an I pod. I am now wondering if I have gone overboard,
vbg. I am not very computer savy, so I have all these songs on my
computer and wonder what it means when I try to delet them and the
warning says I will also delet them from my Ipod. Please help me
