Re: [Apple iPod] iTunes isn't finding track names

This probably isn't the cause, but make sure the computer you are
using is online when you put the CDs into your computer.

[Apple iPod] Re: casette to computer

I have used an old dual cassete boombox with musicmatch deluxe for the
line in recording function and a dual jack cable from Radio Shack. I
works very well for me and did not cost any additional money since I had
all of the stuff needed.

Re: [Apple iPod] getting track information

Perhaps unreasonably, I get irritated at compilations where the
artist is always Various Artists, even when there is a full list on
the insert.

[Apple iPod] Re: Question on burning a disc

Are you asking how to eject a disc after burning?
If so their is an eject icon at the bottom right had corner of the playlist.
There are three buttons : 'burn disc' then next to it "quickly browse your itunes library" -
this one looks like an eye. Then you have the eject button.

[Apple iPod] Question on burning a disc

I have recently switched from Windows PC to a iMac.
When I burned a disc on the PC, the name of the playlist would appear in the left hand
column and on the desktop. When it was finished the information stayed there until I ejected
the disc.
Now on the Mac when the disc is done the desktop icon and the name on the left are no
longer there. So, if I leave the room, there is no disc to eject. I have resorted to hitting the
Burn Disc Icon again which rejects the original. Then I have to stop the Mac from thinking I
want a second copy.

I have looked under preferences and advanced and cannot determine if there is a setting to
leave the information on the desktop and iTunes. Is there one?
Thanks for any feedback
Hank

Hello Jules,

The two products I mentioned in my message of 25th May were the Apple
Radio Remote <http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MA070G/D> and the
BluEye from Gear4 (this one you've just asked about...)

I have the BluEye because I have a Bluetooth mobile phone. I love it
to bits — whenever my phone rings, the podcast or whatever I'm
listening to shuts up, and I can simply press the Play/Pause button to
answer (sometmes I have to press 2 or 3 times). Despite its minuscule
size, the microphone actually gives better sound than the phone itself
in most circumstances. And being able to hear the person through the
Apple earbuds (with Griffin EarJam boosters) is a real pleasure — the
EarJams cut out ambient sound and mean a lot less "Speak up! Didn't
catch that!". In most places, the radio reception is excellent too.
I have only two criticisms of the BluEye: first, the cable that links
it to the iPod is quite delicate, though when mine gave up the ghost
after 4 months, Gear4 replaced it without quibble, and the successor
has so far done about 8 months. Secondly, the clip that holds the unit
to your lapel, collar etc. tends to slip. Arranging the wires
carefully helps here, but it is a bit of a nuisance sometimes.

My wife, on the other hand, has the Apple Radio Remote. She never
walks around with earphones in anyway, as she is blind and navigates
with the help of a guide dog and her ears! Besides, her phone is not
Bluetooth. The FM signal is fairly poor here in our village, but
that's no surprise—it's poor even with a beefy tuner on our stereo.
Our village is surrounded by higher ground, which masks many FM
signals. In Paris, on the other hand, it gives excellent clear
reception. In both units, the design of course uses the earbud wire as
an antenna, which helps reception no end.
As I mentioned earlier, the Apple Radio Remote has a much better lapel
clip. I can't comment on the connecting cable, except to say that it
hasn't given up yet after 2 months!

But the decision and the choice are both up to you, of course!

HTH

Archie

Re: [Apple iPod] casette to computer

I've got one of these:

http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/audio/9778/

I got it for converting my books-on-tape. At $30 to $50 per book, it
paid for itself pretty quickly. It's not fast - it transfers tapes in
real time (a 1-hour tape takes 1 hour to transfer). I use Audacity
software (free) to import the tapes:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

If you have records to import, the same company has a device for you:

http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/mp3/90a0/

These may not be audiophile quality, but they get the job done. The
device I have is perfect for my needs. YMMV.

[Apple iPod] 32G iPod Touch

I've got a 32GB iPod Touch and I've been trying to restore it. The
restoration is very slow I started it last night at about 9PM and as
of this morning at 7:18am only 182 of 2093 items have been
transferred. I'm using and MacPro Quad Core 2.66 computer with 9GB of
memory. I erased and re installed iTunes also. I also did a disk
repair and verification.

Re: [Apple iPod] my 60g 5th generation i-pod

Thanks for that Archie. I have just read about twenty of the customer reviews and am
50/50 as to whether i should buy on or not. Quite a few people complain abou reception
and for me that matters a lot. A radio that doesn't always work is...not a radio in my
opinion! Lol.

Re: [Apple iPod] Viewing Digital Booklets on ipod

Since no one has replied to this....I think you can. You need to add it as lyrics or notes or something. Then when the song is playing and you keep clicking the center button on the iPod it will cycle through album cover, rating, notes, etc.

Just wondering if this is possible? When you buy an album from iTunes
and get the digital booklet, is there a way to view it on your iPod?

[Apple iPod] getting track information

Thanks, Archie, for the ideas. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the track info on Gracenote to download. I thought it might be because sometimes there are bonus tracks on the CD I put into my iTunes library that aren't shown on Gracenote, but even when I highlight just ones that are listed there, they don't load.
This feels like a preferences issue, but my preferences are set to download the track info, so I'm still stuck.

I agree with you about the importance of typing in the information correctly. It IS an annoyance to have to correct the information. I wonder why the recording companies, labels, or distributors don't post the information themselves. Maybe they do, but I constantly find Hawaiian music that I get for a radio show I host is listed as "World" instead of "Hawaiian."

Does anyone else have any thoughts about why I can't retrieve track info? Sometimes it works, but mostly it doesn't. I used to have good luck with this, so it's odd that it's become a problem.

Thanks!

Russ

Re: [Apple iPod] ITunes question

What format do the Amazon versions download as?
If they download as MPEG or MP4 type files then it is likely already iPod
compatible. If they download as Micro$oft Media player or as Real Player
then you will need to convert them. If they download as FLV files then you
will also need to convert them but depending on the format will determine
what converter you get and if you want to and how much you would be willing
to spend for the converter.

Leave it to the Hollywood suits to screw up a good thing.

Now, depending on what shows you want to see and how much you might be
willing to pay for a converter you might try searching the internet for your
shows. You would be surprised what you can find for free. I found the entire
3 full seasons of a favored TV show on a public (and well known) WEB site
free for the viewing that I was able to download and convert for my iPod.

NBC also allows you to download some episodes that you can play on your PC
using their viewer software and again that download might be convertible.
They use Adobe Flash 9 so I suspect the files download in FLV format.

What I don't get about this is that at Amazon they have the 1.99 price
to download their shows from there that they would have at Itunes. Why
did they move if they are going to charge the same?
And is there anyway to convert amazon shows to Ipod ready shows?

[Apple iPod] Viewing Digital Booklets on ipod

Just wondering if this is possible? When you buy an album from iTunes
and get the digital booklet, is there a way to view it on your iPod?

Hello Russ!

Don't hit me, but is the track and album information available on the
Gracenote website (<http://www.gracenote.com/search/>)? That is the
site on which iTunes looks for the information.

If it isn't there, as long as the CD is still in the drive and you're
feeling public-spirited, you can type in the information, then provide
it for everybody else who might rip that CD but highlighting it all
and clicking on Advanced—>Submit CD Track Names.

But make sure you spell everything properly… I get so pissed off at
downloading wrong, misleading or misspelt information… GRRRRR! Takes
ages to correct it sometimes.

If the info is there, then try highlighting the unidentified tracks
and clicking on Advanced—>Get CD Track Names manually, rather than
relying on the automatic settings.

Certainly, Jules!

It's an Apple product, available through the Apple Store online. The UK
Apple Store item description is at <http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MA070G/D

My wife has this product and finds it's excellent. She found its
signal was very good and clear, even in a large steel-framed hospital.

[Apple iPod] iTunes isn't finding track names

There seems to be a problem with obtaining track names for all my
disks lately. I have checked my preferences and they are set to
locate that information.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

[Apple iPod] (unknown)

Thanks for that info. I'm not familiar with the program. Your reply made me wonder if I can record into Garage Band. The problem is that you then have to break up the recording into separate tracks, which is a lot of work.
Does anyone know of any other way to do this?

Thanks.

[Apple iPod] Re:casette to computer

I downloaded Audacity, which is free, to my computer. I connected the cassette player to the PC, played the tape, recording it into Audacity. I then was able to import it into iTunes, and convert it.

I can't remember the specific steps, but if I was able to figure it out, anyone can. It may not be the fastest way, but Audacity was free. This was for spoken tapes, so I was not worried about sound quality.

Good luck,
Bailey

Archie, can you give me a link to the radio without the Phone stuff as I can only find the
ones that do the phone link as well on that side. I can't see the point of routing my phone
through my iTouch. I do want the one that transmits the iPods music to a radio either. I
want to listen to the radio on my iTouch.

Also it is interesting how whenever they refer to the iTouch on that site, they call it an
iPod Touch. A small detail I know but they could use it's correct name.

[Apple iPod] How to upload songs without erasing songs already there

Hi,
HELP!!
I have two separate Itunes accounts on my computer and have two
separate ipod music libraries there. I would like to download certain
songs from each of those separate libraries onto a third ipod. My
question is, how do I set itunes so that when it downloads the songs
it won't "update" everything and I'll lose the first round of songs
that I've already uploaded. Basically, I'd like to load songs onto
this third ipod and then load more songs from the second library
without itunes erasing the first round of songs.
Thanks, and sorry if this is confusing...
Jen

Hello Tim,

Yes, you can listen to the radio on your iPod. I can recommend two
accessories for this: the BluEye from Gear4 ( www.gear4.com ) which
combines a remote control, FM radio tuner and Bluetooth interface to
enable you to use a Bluetooth mobile phone through your iPod headset;
and the Apple Radio Remote, which is like the BluEye but without the
Bluetooth function. Both are about the size, shape and appearance of
an iPod Shuffle. The Apple Radio Remote has a better clip for
attaching to clothing, but the BluEye does more, as of course it also
includes a mic to speak via your mobile phone too. The BluEye cable is
quite fragile though, so you have to be careful with it.

However, there are thousands of accessories available for iPods now—
every Apple trade fair probably has more of them than anything for
Macs these days.

Happy hunting!

Archie

Re: [Apple iPod] Shuffle, is it really?

Mine is an iPod (as indicated in the message) but the algorithms, I have to
believe, are the same for the shuffle as they are for the iPod shuffle songs
option.

[Apple iPod] "I Tunes Library.itl cannot be read" ?????

I have had I Tunes for a while and recently downloaded and installed
the latest version but now I Tunes will not run.

I receive the following message from I Tunes

The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created
by a newer version of iTunes.

What do I have to do to correct this?

I have 8 GB of music files I cannot access.

Re: [Apple iPod] Shuffle, is it really?

I have the same complaint about the shuffle.
With over 8000 songs it seems I often hear the same song played and I have
realized that when you reboot your iPod or sync it then the shuffle will
start all over again so that tells me that there is no intelligence within
the iPod to keep track of the songs played and base that against the
shuffle.
In iTunes there is a option in preferences under the playback tab that lets
you set the ability of hearing the same artists or album but I tend to
believe it only applies if your playing music via iTunes and not the iPod.

3rd gen iPod and iTunes 7.6.2.9 on Vista

Used to be flawless. I'd drop the iPod on the dock, Windows would
make that sound of a device attaching, my iPod would appear in iTunes
and the updating would happen.

Then after going out of town for a weekend (for a funeral), I come
back, and my iTunes doesn't see the iPod. I do all the things Apple
support and this group has suggested in the past
(uninstall/install/ reformat iPod/clear registry). It works again! Hooray.

Last night, I plug in the iPod, and iTunes doesn't see the iPod---AGAIN.

I repeat the process above, but this time it doesn't work.

Now, I put the iPod on the dock, Windows beeps, the iPod displays "Do
not connect" but the iPod doesn't appear in iTunes. Eventually the
iPod display will change to a plain old charging display.

Any ideas?

[Apple iPod] Shuffle, is it really?

Can anyone explain what Shuffle does. I would assume that it would randomly pick tunes
(when shuffling Tunes) but again and again I find that out of a choice of nearly 7000 songs it
will most often pick more than one from the same album within the first half hour of playing.
How does the programming behind shuffle work does anyone know. Is it trying to be clever
and pick some tracks from the same albums to create a sort of pseudo random conformity
(that sounded good eh?) or what?

Re: [Apple iPod] Re: Podcasts

I could not tell you since I don't and have not used MediaMonkey.

mp3tag allows you to enter any tag you want and it remembers those that you
entered.

There are a number of interesting MP3 tag values such as
ITUNESGAPLESS - Setting to a value of 1 sets the Gapless to Yes if it is a
AAC file.
ITUNMOVI - Setting the intended destination forces the file in that
directory
ITUNESADVISORY - Setting a 1 for the value makes the Explicit box show up in
the title
ITUNESPODCAST - Forces it to go into the Podcasts group.
SUBTITLE - Sets a description for Podcasts
ITUNESPODCASTDESC - Populates the Description field for Movies and TV shows
ITUNEXTC - Sets the TV/Movie Rating such as "us-tv|TV-14|500|" will display
the TV-14 emblem in the listing.
