Your on the right track.

Search Google for companies that sell the replacement batteries and see if
you can search for additional info from user groups or apple iPod groups.

You might also check EBay and search there. You can get a fairly good idea
about the company and their reputation by reading their feedback. You can
often times also bypass the EBay junk and contact the company directly once
you find one that looks promising. I personally prefer to not go through
EBay and just deal direct with the company.
