[Apple iPod] iPod and Re-Install OS

I just re-installed my OS (upgraded to Leopard) and added windows boot camp. I have the
iPod 80 gig 5th generation and a Nano (the newest one) and concerned about the files that I
have on my iPod(s). Will I lose them when I go to sync them? What do I need to do to keep
from losing all my tunes on my pods?
thank you.
Leslie

Re: [applekeynote] Rotating objects with drop shadows.

I don't think you read my instructions very well. coin and shadow are independent items. Don't group them.

For some reason, this movie is not displaying properly in mail, I zipped it.

Works as needed, does it not?

[Apple iPod] ITunes question

I remember once when I went on ITunes on the TV shows they had NBC,
but lately I went back on to see hwat they had and NBC wasn't on there
anymore. Why is that? What happened? Why is it gone?

[Apple iPod] Question on how to copy iTunes music

My son has his complete iTunes library on the family room computer (Windows XP). I'd like to make a copy in case of disaster. How can I best do that? He has about 6 gb of music. Can I put copies of his songs onto a flashdrive and put them into an external hard drive I have set up with my computer? Would it just be easier to move my external hard drive, although I wonder if it might interfere somehow with the iTunes folder copy I already have on that drive?

I've read the FAQ, but when I initially copied my iTunes to the external hard drive, I must not have done it correctly because I ended up with a lot of songs with the exclamation point and had to go search and find them again. I keep my iTunes folder on my computer's hard drive, just use the external hard drive as a copy, and want to do the same for my son.
Explicit instructions are most helpful.Thanks.

Re: [applekeynote] Rotating objects with drop shadows.

It looks like this approach also rotates the shadow.

Here's an example of the problem.

In this image I took the background out with instant Alpha, then with image adjust made it black and then made a dark one and a lighter one with opacity. Now, put the same actions on all three, you might be able to group the two shadow pieces and put the action on just the two pieces, you will have to experiment.

Duplicate the image, move the duplicate behind the original, give the duplicate a drop shadow. Remove the drop shadow from the original, and rotate it - the duplicate will not move and will therefore keep the original light source shadow.

[Apple iPod] Re: A couple iTunes/iPOD questions

Could this be a characteristic of 30 GB iPods? Besides the inability
to play podcasts one after the other I also get podcasts and music
mixed in the same way yours does.

Apparently other versions don't have this trouble.

And I thought my library was on the large size! I'm at just over
30,000 (plus video and podcasts, about 500 gigs). I have my library on
an external terabyte USB drive. I have a MacBook Core 2 Duo 2 GHz.
I've found the performance to be quite acceptable. On my previous
computer, a Powerbook 12" (don't remember the exact specs but it was
one of the last versions), I had a lot of experience with the spinning
beach ball. Editing tag info was, well, painful. Now, it seems fast
enough.

I frequently stream audio to my Airport Express connected speakers
(actually I use Airfoil) without difficulty unless someone uses the
really old microwave in the kitchen.

Thanks for another great article!

Meg

Re: [applekeynote] Chart Transparency Problem

I noticed this on a 3D chart I set to 85% and always went back to 100%

I'd say it is a bug. Did you download the latest Keynote Update from 2 days ago?

Otherwise send feedback and wait.

This is a huge problem as we have many charts in these presentations

transparency properly before the show. Any help would be greatly

Re: [Apple iPod] New article: iTunes and Large Libraries: Slow, Slow, Slow

Lets just put it this way, I should have around 20 gigs of music and my external has 150 gigs of music.

My computer has only 30 gigs so I can't put my music on my computer.

The whole thing is a mess and I'll get it straightened up soon.

Which level of folders? Artist? Album? Or just a complete mess with
no structure?

So your iTunes Music folder is on an external and not on C:?

Do you have any backups of that that are without dups or have very few?

[Apple iPod] Static/popping/imperfect sound?

Does anyone know what this may be please? >>>>

Playing CD tracks to see what I want to mark up for switch into iTunes, I
hear the above kind of sounds

Thankfully - the 'finished item' as it eventually appears in iTunes/on the
pod - sounds just fine

Wonder what this could be ....... the drive in the PC isn't that ancient -
but that said, I've burned a few hundred CD-Rs off it and put 4,500 toons
into iTunes. Wonder if it's wearing out!?

Elegant-ish hack: maybe have a box appear at 90% opacity as a build, and have it positioned over the bars you don't want to have full strength. I know it's not a solution, but it's a workaround that I know works (and use regularly myself).

When you say "within the files", where do you mean? iTunes's preferred
structure is Artist > Album > Song. At which level do you see the dups
in Win Explorer?

Do you have a copy of iTunes Music (or all your music in some other
folder structure) anywhere, complete and without dups?

Duplicate the image, move the duplicate behind the original, give the duplicate a drop shadow. Remove the drop shadow from the original, and rotate it - the duplicate will not move and will therefore keep the original light source shadow.

[applekeynote] Rotating objects with drop shadows.

Help!

I have a build which moves, resizes and rotates obverse and reverse
images of a coin. Both have drop shadows. After rotating 90° CCW.,
the shadow is rotated also, as if the light source moved. Is there a
solution for this?

Thanks,

To properly consider the slowness of the computer, the access speed of the hard drive or the access speed of the memory is one of the biggest issues when it comes to calculating speed. As far as having to restart the computer afterwards, it sounds like caching is not being properly cleaned up by one or more of the processes. Caching may also not be large enough to handle all that "stuff".

I was just complaining about that last night. I have a large library at the moment, I lost all my music in a bizarre deletion (I hit delete on accident, lol) and now have tons of duplicates from multiple copies because of duplicates on my external hard drive. Once I get done there will be under 20 gigs of music I believe but as for now it is 149 gigs. Since there are so many files in iTunes it drags my computer down while using iTunes. It can take forever to get started and working on the files. It uses the most memory than any other program and when I'm finished with it, I usually have to restart my computer (Windows Xp) to be able to use my computer at it's normal speed.

Re: [Apple iPod] New article: iTunes and Large Libraries: Slow, Slow, Slow

From what I can tell somehow there are dups within the files, its a mess. What I'm wondering if it is possible to copy the library directly from the itunes screen and then get rid of those files with originals included. That way I would have the music but no dups.

So you have apparent dups but they aren't because if you delete them
the original goes too?

What do you see if you look at the folders within the iTunes Music
folder using Win Explorer? Are there dups there?

I haven't found a program that will delete the dups for me yet so I'm not touching the music on my external. I don't have a burner on my laptop so I'm stuck with dups, lol.

Re: [Apple iPod] videos

I've recently found Magic DVD Ripper. It was extremely user friendly and worked perfect on Windows Vista.
The download gives you 5 free to evaluate it. It is also a converter so importing into iTunes was simple.

Good Luck

Rebecca,

How is it possible to delete all your music with only a single press
of Delete? Whether in iTunes itself or in Win Explorer, you would have
to follow that with several further actions.

Why would you have duplicates on your backup? How are you doing the
copies? Are you merging your library into the same backup folder each
time? (I can see why you would have at least 2 separate copies, and in
fact recommend it.)

I ask only to help, not to criticise. :)

[Apple iPod] iTunes doesn't see music unless I manually find it

Hi, I just transferred all my stuff from XP to a new Vista PC. When I
try to play music on my Vista machine, I get the following msg:

The Song XXX could not be used because the original file could not be
found. Would you like to locate it?

When I try to play nothing happens (and I get those "!" symbols). The
directory is set up correctly, and iTunes sees it. And I'm not going t
locate each song!

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: [Apple iPod] videos

itunes most likely checks to verify if the dvd is "legal". then it may refuse to copy it if it is. I really haven't tried to copy a "copy".
