[Apple iPod] Accessing Hard Drive

My computer's motherboard is still viable. Can anyone tell me
(because it is too technical for Apple to answer) if I installed my
old HD as a secondary drive on a new computer and then authorized it,
would Itunes look for and approve my using those files? Or is it a
simple matter of copying the file to the new hard drive and
authorizing that computer?
Anyone with any ideas is thanked in advance.
