[Apple iPod] thinking about an iPod

My new car has a port for an iPod or similar device. I don't want my
original CDs in the car, so would have to copy them. I've been
wondering if an iPod would be a better way to bring my music into the
car. As I know nothing about them, I thought it would be a good idea
to do a little learning. I presume, I would copy my CDs [and/or buy
other music] onto my iMac and then to the iPod. What size would you
recommend for a rank beginner? Please advise.
