[applekeynote] Re:problems printing handouts

getting back the mechanics of your question and not so much focusing on the debate regarding printed materials....

i work for a production company that handles the training curriculum for a local corporation and they require a printed take-home "manual" for each group that they host.  so, being able to get  consistent prints is very important to my workflow.

here's what i do:  i change my page setup to portrait , choose my settings (not draft; 6 up; etc) and then save as PDF - so far the same as discussed here.  but at this point, i take that pdf into acrobat.  this is where i add the header/footer information - i have a few settings saved that have the margins i like (which allow for 3 hole punch paper).  these setting were reached through a few minutes of trial and error, but once i got them, i just saved them and base all future printouts on them.

the other plus for finishing your print file in acrobat is that you're given the option of reducing the file size.  i consistently take pdfs from keynote that are 300+ MB and reuced them to e-mail sized files that also print beautifully on our printer.

so, check out using acrobat - i think that until apple figures out that they need a more robust printing engine, this may be the best way of obtaining great printouts quickly.
