[Apple iPod] Importing/Downloading DVDs

Have a new 80GB iPod Classic. . .and the latest iMac.

Own quite a few DVDs.

What is the best software program to install on my iMac. . .and to work
seamlessly with latest iTunes version. ..with easy download onto my
iPod, etc.

Also, if I want to play movies from my iPod. . .through my televisions
(both analog and HDTV). . .what cables or connection kits will be
needed?
