Yes, I know all this, but the fact that it can play AVI's also means that there's the POTENTIAL to play the codecs (like dvix and xvid) that currently only work (or at least are most often seen) within the AVI (vs. MOV) container...

There is some confusion here. AVI is *not* a codec. It is a "container"
format that can contain just about any audio/video content.

The most common use of the .avi filename extension is for video torrents,
which mostly (always?) use the DivX/Xvid codec.

IOW avi = DivX/Xvid in practice.

PS I'd bet that in a year's time, 64 GB flash will cost what 32 does now.
