You've got this nailed but there is more.
If you attempt to manage your music files using Finder/Win Explorer you will
not only waste a lot of time, but you are very likely (certain?) to break
the links between the iTunes library (database) and the real files. Who
wants a lose-lose situation?
Oh, and backup, backup, BACKUP.
