RE: [Apple iPod] iPod Touch

Wow, that's great to know about the third-party video player. I wonder if it will play Dvix and Xvid video? That has been one of my biggest complaints about the iPod - that you are stuck to just the formats Apple wants you to have, whereas most other players out there can boast of a zillion different format options. If the more open application environment of the Touch (and iPhone) removes that limitation, I might have to seriously think about an iTouch. If they can get the thing up to 64GB without making it even more pricey, that might be the thing that pushes me to buy....

Jules,

Like you I¹m was looking into the Touch and was expecting it to replace my
80GB Archos. My son is visiting us right now and he brought with him his
16gb iPod Touch. For me this was perfect because I could spend
considerable time exploring it.

After a day of playing with it, I have determined it if far superior to my
30gb iPod (very old version). I¹m not convinced the video player is better.
In fact, I think the video player (and photo viewer) is considerably worse
than the Archos. I have decided to keep my Archos until I find something
better, but the touch is not it.

On the good side, one of my concerns was that the Touch required you to
convert all the video files to the iPod format. That IS NOT TRUE. My son
added a 3rd party player (from memory it is Visual Hub) and it plays AVI
files just fine, without conversion.

Good luck in your search..

Wade
