Depending on the size of the folder and if it was a Windows machine it would not go to the Recycling bin but just be deleted. If that was the case it would have asked if you were sure you wanted to delete them

If you deleted them, you must also have emptied the Recycle Bin to lose them
entirely. Is that possible? Are you sure you didn't move them to another
folder?
