Try completely uninstalling and reinstalling your iTunes.
You can check to see whether the files are trashed by locating them using
explorer or finder. Try to play them with Real or Windows Media Player. If
this doesn't work then they really are trashed.
iTunes files are located in 'My Music' under 'My Documents'. The music
files are stored here in various subdirectories.
In Mac OSX it's in the Music folder.
Personally, I've set iTunes not to move my files into the library. That
way, they stay where I put them and don't get crashed by the misbehavior of
iTunes. iTunes merely links to the files. If you move them the library
loses track of them and you have to drag them back into the library with
multiple entries appearing. This is a pain in the ass, but I prefer to keep
my audio and video on very large external drives.

There are non-Apple programs that allow you to back up your iPod to your HD.
There are versions for both Windows and Mac OSX.
My advice is to buy one (they're relatively cheap) and backup your iPod. It
iTunes is screwed it might screw your iPod files.
Once you get the files off the iPod you can delete the iTunes library and
drag your backed up files back into it.

Subject: [Apple iPod] Re:Lost iTunes Files
Hi,
I'm afraid that I appear to have done something stupid, all of the files I
had in my iTunes ( v 7 ) seem to be either corrupt ( " original file could
not
be found " ) or missing altogether. I really don't know what I've done but
I'm really annoyed with myself especially as I've had some great help
previously from people in this group when I was setting everything up!
Fortunately I have everything on my iPod ( 160 gb ) - music 2016 files -
14.87gb
movies 1610 files - 16.12gb
Is there any "easy" way that I can refresh my iTunes by transferring
everything back to my Laptop from my iPod?
Is it possible to uninstall iTunes and start again with the "good" files I
have on the iPod?
I would really appreciate any help, keep it "simple" please!
many thanks,
Brian ( UK )
