Your fortunate that you haven't experienced any issues. However, I take it that you're not aware of all the problems that us iPod classic owners experienced with iTunes when that product (classic) was released last September. These new issues mirror those from last year, only they are far worse as they render the iPod useless wrt being able to sync new music/movies/podcasts. Not much fun in having a very expensive paper weight.
Did you even read the forums that I linked to? Because if you had, you would have read that there were several instances where people posted that they weren't experiencing the problems highlighted in the forum discussions. So much for "highly skewed".

People who post on tech support forums are there because they have
problems. The people who don't have problems, don't post. Therefore,
your sample is highly skewed.
I, for, example, downloaded 7.7 the first day it was available,
version 2.0 for my Touch as soon as it was available and have had no
(zip, zero, nada) problems.
One should always have good back ups and exercise caution when
upgrading. However, there's caution and then there's fear mongering.
Best of luck.
