RE: [Apple iPod] Ipod touch digitizer

To digitize is to convert to a digital format:
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digitizer>

What's being described here is a digitizing tablet that allows one to draw
on it:
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digitizer_tablet>

When one refers to audio or video on a computer or handheld device the
analog image input MUST be converted (digitzed) in order for it to be
viewable/playable on the device. The iPod on its own does not digitize
unless you buy the microphone. In that case, the analog audio signal is
digitized into a WAV file and stored on the device. iPods are mainly
receivers of digital files which have been digitized elsewhere. Audacity is
a digitizing program. Likewise is Garageband. I use a Dutch program called
'Polderbits' to digitize my old cassette tapes into MP3 files. If you go
out and buy an analog vinyl record player these days you will get a program
which will allow you to digitize your record collection and store it on a
computer.

A digitiser is the membrane on the screen that recognises input from a
stylis or finger. Early palm devices were prone to serious problems
recognising where on the screen the stylis was being tapped which made it
extremely difficult to use them meaningfully for any length of time.

WM os devices seem much more stable and usable ( never had to reset one in
3yrs use)

Don't know about apple products & how they work but from the look of what
I've seen they work in the same way.
