Re: [applekeynote] Presentation Zen

It's far from off topic.

In my presentation for Macworld, I used a couple of Garr's slides with his permission to illustrate my talk.

Garr intended to attend the talk but got held up in Japan, but as compensation he Fedexed 5 books to me which I gave away to some lucky audience members (about 150-200) as prizes for answering Keynote-oriented questions.

I also gave away some new boxed themes from John Driedger, and a few Aussie-themed prizes.

Nothing like bribing an audience for a positive evaluation.

Garr's book is inspirational, and he includes a special incentive for iStockphoto at the back of the book. He almost exclusively uses it for his high res photos.

The book retails for 29.95 but Amazon and B&N offer discounts.

I'm hoping he sends me 2nd edition copies for Macworld 2009, if I get invited back. Still awaiting evaluation summary.

Best

I apologize if anyone thinks this post is a bit OT, but I finally got around to buying Garr
Reynold's book, "Presentation Zen" the other day and couldn't put it down. In his book Mr.
Reynolds addresses everything from getting into the head of your audience, creating your
outline effectively, to slide creation examples (less is more).

And as a professional photographer (one of my hats), I couldn't agree more with getting
rid of the cheezy ineffective clip-art and buying images from stock agencies to make your
message more visual and striking.

He starts out by saying Power Point Presentations, but gravitates towards "Power Point and
Keynote" by the first 15 pages. (Must be all those years of working for Apple).

Not to give anything away, but Silicon Valley entrepreneur Guy Kawasaki writes the forward
to the book using Power Point (actually probably Keynote) slides in probably the funniest
and shortest (kudos to the book) forwards I've ever seen. Also, our very own Les Posen is
mentioned in the Acknowledgments. Here is the link to Amazon (only because it has
pictures and reviews). It is available at the stateside chains like Borders and Barnes &
Noble.
