Re: [Apple iPod] Re: MP3?

David,

I agree that the FM devices are not up to par. Sadly, they are one of the easiest to use, too. I like the audio plugs, as they are very available.

Subject: [Apple iPod] Re: MP3?

A year and a half ago I had installed a device into my Jeep Liberty

that plays the ipod through the speaker system, and the sound is

great. My wife with very sensitive hearing likes the sound, and so

do I despite my really crappy hearing. I bought and had installed

the whole system from Circuit City, and it's inside my glove box.

The default is it plays a mass random shuffle, but I can game it by

launching on the iPod whatever Playlist is wanted. The whole thing

cost about $200. What's really great about it is the connection is

through the synch end of the iPod, not the audio jack, and it is

charging the unit while it plays.

Regrettably, I can't now recall the name of this thing, but you'll

find it at C-City in a box for sale to consumers in the Car Audio

department. IMO, you do not want something that plugs into the audio

jack or certainly not a unit that works on the FM radio band.

Good luck, and enjoy.

I know exactly how you feel, Linda. It took me hours of on-line

research but I finally figured out that what you want is called an

"Auxilliary Audio Input" (AAI). It's just a simple 1/8-inch coaxial

stereo input jack that's mounted on the dashboard and connects via a

patch cord (available for a couple of bucks from Radio Shack or just

about any other electronic retailer) with the earphone jack on your

iPod.
