Re: [Apple iPod] iPod Touch

Thanks for your intelligent reply Levi.
Fistly the Archos was quite big and heavy (relatively, lol) compared
to the 9mm thin (as the Apple guys say) iTouch. I was in product
design for 21 years and am probably a bit overcritical of tactileness,
use, and design of products. But the Archos won no prizes in that
field, whereas the iPod range is a winner in all respects. Just hold
an iPod and hold an Archos and tell me which feels nicest.
The colors of the images on the Archos are flat compared to the iPod
(or any correctly screen profiled device. I am in the photography
business and to see the Archos image rendition was unsatisfying to say
the least. As for all the other features of the Archos, especially
music, the iPod does it a whole lot better.
You are right about the storage size. iPod does ereduce the size of
files. I've got 8000 pics on mine and that takes up less than 5MB.But
combine it with music and a large storage is beneficial. I'm sure a
larger iToch is on the cards. It's probably arleady designed and Apple
is just holding it back so that we all buy the 32 and then want a
bigger one when it comes along. Lol.
I know there are other devices for picture storage but they are all
non contenders really when you look at the iTouch. just the facility
to flick thru music and images is so good that the other devices look
like carts compared to horse and truck.

there than just the iPod touch and the Archos! I don't have the
touch, but have seen it and it does have nice display features for
photos, but I haven't compared the display against competing devices.
Perhaps someone online has. What was "rubbish" about the Archos?
Was it the user interface, the display, or something else? Also, if
your wife is just going to use it for images, the 32GB model might be
overkill. I'm not sure about the touch, but on my regular iPod, it
converts all images you have down to a 100k, so a 32gb model would be
able to store 320,000 of these. Does she really need that much
capacity, or will she be using it for music, audio books, and/or video
as well? As Otto mentioned, the touch is flash-based, so
comparatively the memory is expensive. The other devices out there
should be cheaper and hold more, and they also won't force you to
convert all your images in order to put them on the device. But they
will be bigger...
