[Apple iPod] Anything other than iTunes Software?

My 10 year old saved up for her first iPod. First "shock" was finding
I needed to download (over 56K) a 57 meg iTunes program. Next shock
was when I opened it, it wanted a more up to date version of XP than
the one I have. Attempts to uptdate XP seemed so slow they were
pointless.

Basically I'm just moving files around here. from my hard drive to my
daughter's new memory device. It's all nice for Apple to want to build
their business site on my hard drive, but is there a simpler freeware
out there for people who don't want all the Apple BS, and for that
mater can't run it. My brand new camera, and every other pig I plug in
is just fine with my computer, even if it is creaky.
