[Apple iPod] Where is the Library Information Stored On An Ipod?

My iPod suffered some sort of weird crash, and while all my songs are
there, the iPod doesn't recognize them. As far as I can tell,
the "Library" file has been deleted or corrupted on my Pod. But maybe
I can undelete an old version. It can't hurt to try.

But what file would I be looking for? Where is the library
information on an Ipod? Where are things like Playlists stored?

Any help would be very much appreciated.
