[Apple iPod] original file could not be found

I did a search on this problem but couldn't find anything that would help. So,
I'm here
seeking your help and advice.

I've had no problems with iTunes since I started using it soon after it came
out. Until now.

I moved my library to an external drive by dragging it, as Kirk suggested,
rather than by
consolidating it, as Apple suggests. I reset the library's location in the
Advanced tab,
checked "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Music
folder when
adding to library."

Everything looked and played as it should. Not exclamations, no "...could not be
found"s.

The exclamations and "...could not be found"s came up, I think, after I attached
my iPod to
sync. I'm suspecting that attaching the iPod has something to do with the
problem of
locating my files, but I'm not sure. Might be just coincidental. Not sure.

In iTunes, if I do a Get Info on a song the data is displayed but can't be
changed. If I go to
the folder on the external that contains the files and double-click on a song,
then it plays
and I can make changes with Get Info if I need to.

I can't see what the problem could be. Everything looks as it should. Not sure
how the iPod
could be causing the problem, if it is. My last resort is to double-click on
each file on the
external. Laborious and time-consuming. HAS to be a better way.

Any help greatly appreciated!
