Dells I've used the past few years, there is a Fn-button combination.
For instance, Fn+F2 (the F2 button has an antenna symbol) will toggle
Wifi on or off.
Note: I think when I put my machine into suspend mode with the WiFi off,
then reopen the cover to start the machine, the WiFi comes back on
automatically.
Side note: I'm reading today that the Europeans, and likely soon the
U.S., is soon to be allowing cell phone usage on airplanes. It makes
sense. I've read about researchers being able to detect that laptops and
cell phones were in use on commercial flights, and I've been on flights
and watched people use their laptops, cell phones, ipods, etc. and never
have I hear of an airplane missing the destination runway because of the
passengers' electronics.
