Not true,
I have iWorks 08 on a Mac Mini with the preloaded previous version of iLife, so it is not true you need iLife 08/
A good reason to have iLife 08 is that it is an excellent program to keep good track of pictures of church activities, so iPhoto is a worthy program for Keynote.  As a suggestion.

I purchased iWorks 08 and and received it today. According to the install instructions, it
recommends having iLife 08 installed. I have no use for iLife for this computer since I use it

08? Will I have troubles if I do not get iLife 08. iLife 06 came with the computer. I get all
the updates every time I connect to the internet

I purchased iWorks 08 because of the help here in this group from my earlier question
