[Apple iPod] song ends prematurely

2nd gen 4 gig
OS 10.4.11
iTunes 7.5

Play list lists all songs
some songs end prematurely.
Also, as mentioned in another post
some songs appear in the menu list
but do not play.

Advise appreciated
