I think I fixed getting the bad message about the file not found.
Its doing the photos now, but only on 2,000 and its been 45 minutes already. It takes a very long time.
I had 1 folder named - "itunes folder" and thats the one I put on the external and dragged over into the new laptop. Let me go look at the contents....
Ok...its got
Album Artwork
iTunes Music
iTunes Library
iTunes Music Library
Isn't that right? Shouldn't that be everything? If not, let me know and I'll go drag and drop what I missed.
Thanks Otto!

I'm betting that you copied the iTunes Music folder and not the
iTunes folder. The first contains all your music; the second contains
not only the first but also the iTunes Library file, which contains
the "meta data", including playlists. Remember that iTunes is a
library app and needs to have a file that tells it about the actual
data (music files in this case).
The folder structure should be easily apparent using Win Explorer (if
it's still called that in Vista).
Copy over the iTunes Library file and you should be OK.
An iPod syncs at about 30 GB/hour so It shouldn't take all night to
fill even 80 GB.
Was the laptop allowed to sleep? Was it on battery?

I turned back on the laptop, tried to sync, and I get a message that states "CAN NOT SYNC IPOD - REQUIRED FILE NOT FOUND" - this happened when it was trying to "optimze photos".
