The size of the folders in itunes on the external are exactly what is on the old laptop - no changes.

Can you suggest the next step to find those songs? I'm at my wits end trying to figure it out.

XP Win Explorer gives you the actual size?

How are you doing the copy? Old PC > external > new PC? You need to
check the copies on the external first.
