Re: [Apple iPod] Classic or iTouch ??????????

If the reason *really* is to have more space on it, then the Touch would
be a serious waste of money IMO. Even the $400 one would only add
another 8G if what he has now is 8G. It' would be better to just get
him another nano and have him use two (or a classic). "Cheap" $300
one still only has 8G.

Now, the touch has a wonderful UI, I played with one in a Best Buy
display. Much bigger screen, which is good for video, etc. But its
biggest weakness is lack of filespace (plus, unlike the old 5G 60G unit
I used to have, it cannot be used as a "drive" one's computer). Had it
been 32G or more, I'd probably have one.

If one really is going for video and larger screen, which also needs big
diskspace, for them, the Archos 605 wifi may be the answer (for me it's
starting
to get ahead of waiting for next year's touch, next October'ish which only
hopefully will have more flash space). It's disk is up to 160 Gb,
although the
30G and smaller versions are a bit thinner. It's screen is of much
hgher resolution
than any ipod and is physically larger as well. It's featurelist also
is a lot
longer than the touch's -- as well as things like its wifi being able to
do more
than the touch's anyway (other than the Starbucks stuff). But it's much
thicker
and it's UI (although a touch screen) isn't a wowiezowie as the touch
(and it
doesn't have the Apple company glow about it -- made by a French
company that's been making them for a very long time, even longer than Apple
I think).

So... figure out what's REALLY wanted, and go from there... would
be my two cents.

Mike

P.S. - Major problem I have with the Archos unit is the unit's
thickness. It's
about 0.6" for the thinner one and 0.75 or so for the thicker
one. Much
thicker than the really thin touch (what, 0.3" or some
such?) But
with the touch, when one wants a protective covering for it
(leather
flip-over or the like), coverings that I've seen (more than
just skins which
don't seem to protect much) tend to be even thicker than the
touch itself
and bascially undo the whole thin thing, making the Archos not
quite so
bad (its covering increases it's thickness a much smaller
percentage). Just
one of those puzzlements of what to do.... :-)
