I get screwed up in what is labeled what specific name.

I copied my itunes folder over to an external hard drive.
I plugged that into the new laptop.
I opened itunes (which had nothing in it) on the new laptop
I dragged the itunes folder from the external drive into itunes. It transferred all my music and podcasts, but I noticed none of my playlists were there.

That seems to be the least of my troubles now, because I synced the ipod (video 5th gen)
to itunes on the new laptop.
I also keep all my photos on it, which are over 10,000, so it took quite a long time. I went to bed.
I got up this morning, the laptop had shut off (said closed down improperly), the ipod still connected (stating "do not disconnect"). I turned back on the laptop, tried to sync, and I get a message that states "CAN NOT SYNC IPOD - REQUIRED FILE NOT FOUND" - this happened when it was trying to "optimze photos".

Yikes!!! Now what do I do??? Please....any help appreciated!!
