[Apple iPod] Nano shelf life

I have a new unopened 4G nano and would like to know how long I can
store it unused, as my old nano is still going strong or if it's
necessary to charge it's battery first be storing it until I need it.Any
info would be appreciated.Thanks in advance and happy holidays!
