Hi Dave,

As you say, it's much easier to go along with iTunes.

If you are not using the latest iTunes it is difficult to know what
options you have but again, you seem to be making things harder than
you need to. With the iPod connected, you can change the sync option
from auto to 'Copy selected playlists' or full manual. I also have a
library larger than my 20 GB iPod's capacity and use the 'Copy
selected' option. I have a playlist for the iPod and the total size
shows in the bottom bar of the iTunes window. I add music to, or
remove it from, the playlist to fit in the iPod. This playlist *is*
what gets synced to the iPod when next connected.

This is all much easier than what you are doing now!
