[Apple iPod] All locked up while trying to sync...

My wife hooked her iPod to the PC to load some music.
The LOCK button was locked (don't know if that matters),
and the iPod is just frozed at the Do Not Disconnect.

I have seen this before, and disconnected, and managed to
get it to shut off, but that is not working this time.
Trying to use USB 2.0 to sut it off is worthless as well.

It's a 30G last gen (not the newest one). Suggestions?
