>>You should only see this if you have the Soundcheck option checked in
Playback preferences. iTunes analyzes your files, but only plays them
back with this difference if the option is checked in iTunes or if
it's turned on on the iPod.<<
Yes, I have the Soundcheck option checked on the 'Burning' tab - is there another Soundcheck option elsewhere? I thought that, by doing this, I would equalise the sound levels of the various files/tracks when burning them to a CD.
So, if this is the same Soundcheck option that you're referring to in your reply, what will unchecking it do? Improve the sound levels of my converted recordings? In that case, if I've understood correctly, I need to uncheck Soundcheck when converting/ripping and then check it again when burning. My compilations often consist of files from various sources, not necessarily ripped by me.
>>It could be that after the file has been ripped, iTunes switches to
playing the file, rather than playing from the CD. But I've never
heard this before. <<
Yes, I think this is what happens. Because of this, I turn off the 'Play songs while importing or converting' option.
Thanks for your help.
Regards
Steve
