Re: [Apple iPod] tagging query

Steve,

If you are in iTunes and have your music library showing, just click on the "view" menu at the top and choose the last item "view options" (or just hit Ctrl+J) and a window will pop up giving you a choice of what options you want to view. I believe most of your requests are in there.

I'm not sure about renaming the mp3 file in iTunes but there is an option when you right click on an mp3 you can choose "show in windows explorer" and a window will pop up showing where that file is and you can change the name from there.

Subject: [Apple iPod] tagging query

Hello everyone

I have a tagging query which I hope is appropriate for this group -
if not, perhaps the moderators would re-direct me.

Forgive the preliminary ramble - the real question is in the last
paragraph. (BTW, when I say "label/number" below, I am talking about
that information for single 45/78 rpm releases from the 1950's, not
album information).

Most of my CDs are home-made discs - I'm busy transferring and
archiving all my old C90 tapes right now, then converting my
favourites to mp3.

I do my mp3 tagging in iTunes (the tagging field titles appear to be
pre-set).

The tags I like to add are:

Name (being the track name)
Artist
Grouping (this is the heading I arbitrarily chose to put the
label/number information into - it would be nice if there was such a
heading as standard)
Year (of release)
Genre

In iTunes, I don't seem to be able to rename the mp3 file itself, so
I go back to Windows (Vista) Explorer to do this.

But back in Explorer, under 'Name' I only see the original track
numbers (from my home-made CDs) and so I have to go back to iTunes to
check the title for a particular track. And furthermore, I don't see
a column for 'Grouping' (my "label/number" info) at all - neither can
I find that particular tag entry, even by checking all the available
boxes shown by right-clicking in Explorer. The Artist, Year and
Genre tags are all read and shown correctly in Windows Explorer.

It's only a minor irritation, but I'd love to know why field tags
made in one application (e.g. iTunes) don't show up in another
application (e.g. Windows (Vista) Explorer). Or rather, some do and
some don't. What's happened to the 'Name' and 'Grouping' tags in the
example above?

Best wishes

Steve (UK)
