Waiting for the battery to run out is kind of annoying. I suggest trying to reset the ipod first.
1. Turn the Hold Switch On and Off
2. Press and hold the Select Button (the center button) and the Menu Button at the same time until the Apple Logo appears (usually around 10 seconds)
3. Repeat the process if the iPod has not reset itself
if this doesn't work for you then...sorry
