Re: [applekeynote] Keynote scrolling text

Now that we have action builds I do this quite a lot. It is very
useful when you want to present a long argument that won't fit on one
slide. For example, if I want to go through a long algebraic proof
with a class of students it completely eliminates the need to say
"this equation that we have at the top of the slide is exactly the
same as what we had at the bottom of the last one." In this way you
can have stuff coming in at the bottom at the same time as you have
other stuff disappearing at the top.

If you use builds for this there is a limit caused by the fact that
you can't position the slide anywhere except at top-left, so you
can't have a move ending off-screen at the top. However, this does
not cause a big problem in practice because the build starts in the
middle of the object you want to move, so you can easily have two
slides' worth of content in one buiild. I haven't found a way to have
more than two slides' worth.

Normally I'm restricted to builds, because there are normally some
things I want to remain stationary during the build. However, if you
don't mind having the entire content move you can move it in an
almost unlimited way using a "push" slide transition ("bottom to
top", and "automatically", not "on click") instead of a build within
one slide. Before I tried ths I thought it would be jerky, but in
practice everything moves in a smooth way.

For me too (with the qualifications above).
