Re: [applekeynote] Re: iDVD timing question

Not sure why, but it looks better when exported from iMovie as a slide show. When using iMovie, photos are not as sharp.

don't you have iMovie?

Just bring in all the photos and adjust the timing as you wish then add transitions. add music. very easy to do even if you have never done it before.

Other thought within Keynote ... assume you have a 3 second minimum time for each slide but need some 4, 5 and 6 second times on each photo. you could make all the photos only one second long and then duplicate each slide for the number of seconds that you need it on the screen.

good luck.

The truth is, Keynote really isn't the best tool out there for timed, musical slideshows. It's
much better suited to verbal presentations, where the presenter clicks the cues manually
and unveils information in each slide. Using Keynote for a musical slide show is a little like
using Excel as a word processor: you can do it, but that's not really what it was built for,
and there are better tools out there.

Assuming you have iLife, the cheapest solution may be iPhoto. It lets you do beautiful
slide shows with the pan-and-zoom "Ken Burns" effect, and you can easily add music
from your iTunes library -- even DRM'd songs from the iTunes Store.

There are other, more advanced slide show apps out there, too. My personal favorite these
days is Boinx FotoMagico. It's like iPhoto's slide shows on steroids: the image quality is
equal to iPhoto, but it has even more control features. The pan/zoom effect is more
sophisticated; you can adjust the individual timing of each slide and use any combination
of transitions and fade speeds; you can easily use multiple music selections; and you can
even synchronize the slides precisely to the music (though this last feature is a little
tricky).

If you want to get trickier, another interesting slide show app is Aquafadas PulpMotion
Advanced. It lets you create shows with elaborate motion effects. You can make it look as
if your photos are sitting in frames on a shelf... or like your photos are hanging in a
museum and you're walking thru the galleries... or like your photos are in a printed book
and you're flipping thru the pages! PulpMotion's interface is a little funky, but the results
are very impressive.

My one real wish is that Apple would add a "pro" version of iPhoto's musical slide show
features and pan/zoom effects to Keynote, so it could be used for timed, theatrical
presentations with all of KN's existing titles, builds, etc. Better yet, I wish Apple would just
*buy* Fotomagico AND PulpMotion, and build their features into Keynote. :-)

Long ramble... good luck with your slide show!
