RE: [Apple iPod] What can you say about the new iPhone 3G?

The iPhone has some interesting and attractive features, but due to the carrier situation, I will opt for an iPod Touch if they come out with a 64GB version (or nothing if they don't). My current plan with Sprint is extremely cost effective and moving to AT&T would cost considerably more per month (even despite the fact I don't have to "break" any contract with Sprint). I'm not willing to pay that high a monthly premium just to have the iPhone. My wife has an iPod touch, and while it definitely has some nice features (wifi, large screen), it is not quite a "smart phone") The on-screen keyboard input is slow compared to my Treo 700wx, and the interface for configuring various settings leaves something to be desired. I'm sure the new software, which will also be available for the Touch, will open up these devices to applications that get at functionality that is missing even now on the standard apps that come with them, so I'm hopeful things will improve. The iPhone is definitely competitive when it comes to most cell phone plans, just not with Sprint's SERO, so until SERO ends or AT&T offers a similar priced plan, or iPhones become available on Sprint (yeah, right!), I'll pass and go for the iPod Touch...

First of all, I have seriously considered buying one. Two things get me from doing so: I do not like AT&T as a cell phone carrier, and wished that Apple had chosen another carrier, or carriers. While the price may appear to be "just right", after talking to a number of people, I am hearing that there are a number of hidden charges, making the phone more expensive than advertised.
