That was correct for the NiCd and NiMH batteries used until a few
years ago, but the lithium-ion batteries in iPods and MacBooks do not
exhibit the "memory effect". They will gradually lose capacity over
time, but the chief factor causing this is simply the number of charge-
discharge cycles. You can expect around 1000 cycles from a given
battery. Keeping your iPod's battery topped up with the desktop unit
will actually prolong its life.
