[Apple iPod] Shuffle won't show up on desktop or in iTunes

I have a 1 GB second generation iPod Shuffle, my computer is an iMac G5, 10.4.11. The
computer apparently doesn't recognize the shuffle.
I repeatedly tried resetting the shuffle as per instructions on the Apple website. Didn't do a
thing.
When I first plug it into the dock, the light blinks orange 3 times. After that nothing. (If I turn
it on while not on the dock, it blinks once green, like it normally does.)
Any suggestions, ideas....?
