[Apple iPod] Info/advice needed RE: Cracked 5th G vid screen

Hiya,
So like every other ipod, my battery finally bit the big one. We were
able to replace an ipod battery for 3rd G (I think it was a 3rd G)
with no incident, new battery worked great. Well this week, we tried
again with my video ipod, and instantly cracked the screen while
trying to remove the front plate. Charming, I know, lol.

So my questions are as follows:

1.)Has anyone else cracked their screen yet? What course of action did
you take?

2.) If you replaced your own screen, as I'm kinda tempted to do, as
the screen is already cracked and can't get much worse (+ I still need
to replace the old battery), do you know of any good solid online
tutorials?

3.)Should I just mail it off to some one and spend the 70+ $ to have
them do it and cut my losses?

I would love any feedback or opinions in this situation, as I actually
use the video feature on the pod itself quite frequently.

Thanks everyone, and have a great weekend.
Cheers.
