[Apple iPod] Logic3 Remote

I recently bought a Logic3 MIP119 remote control for my 5th gen 80GB
Mac OS X 10.5-controlled Video iPod. I find that it performs a reset
each time I turn it on, which isn't what I want, plus it doesn't seem
to turn the iPod off when I follow the instruction manual's
directions to do that, resulting in a zero charge when I expect to
use it. What am I doing wrong, please?
