would correct the problem that I experienced with the
one before that (7.4.2?).
I have an eMac with OS 10.3.9 and an external hard
disk (USB) that was working just fine until the past
two software updates. Now my computer won't recognize
the hard disk and it says that OS X can't handle the
volume! (I'm assuming initialization might be a
problem here.)
I went to the Apple store today here in Japan and they
of course did not get the same error on their computer
but I think their computers would still not read the
disk. (I could be wrong. They don't always like to
tell me the details. I just know that they did not get
the same error that I did and so therefore say that my
error is unsupported by results.) They then said
(almost as a reflex!) that I should bring in my
computer to get it checked out and fixed. Huh? This
was after about 30 seconds.
Further discussion led to another guy chipping his two
yen in and saying that the hard disk was probably
faulty. I protested that it was fine until two updates
ago. he said that was probably just a coincidence with
the timing.
Does anybody know of anybody else with the same kind
of experience recently? Will rebooting be the
solution? Is the best solution just to get a new
external hard disk? Or, two? (I backed everything up
to DVD but the eMac doesn't read them. The PC does
though, so I still have t he data. The staff just
laughed when I said I backed up to DVD by the way. AT
least I backed things up!)
