[Apple iPod] Correct Way to Save to a Flash Drive Question

I know the importance of backing up the iTunes music stored on one's
computer and have tried to use a dedicated flash drive. I've clicked on backup and
it show me that it recognizes the flash drive, but it never says that it has
saved the music.

Any hints on the right way to do this?
